Provide advanced first aid

Healthcorp’s ​HLTAID014 Provide Advanced First Aid is part of the fully accredited first aid training that gives you the knowledge, skills and confidence to respond in an emergency situation. Advanced first aid training provides the necessary skills required to confidently coordinate, manage and instruct other first aiders across a range of complex situations – as well as within community and workplace environments.

Learning Objectives

performed at least 2 minutes of uninterrupted single rescuer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) (5 cycles of both compressions and ventilations) on an adult resuscitation manikin placed on the floor

performed at least 2 minutes of uninterrupted single rescuer CPR (5 cycles both compressions and ventilations) on an infant resuscitation manikin placed on a firm surface

performed at least 2 minutes of Bag-valve-mask ventilation and at least 2 minutes of compression during a two-rescuer procedure on an adult resuscitation manikin placed on the floor

responded appropriately in the event of regurgitation or vomiting

managed the unconscious breathing casualty

communicated effectively with a first aid team providing direction and coordination of other first aiders

provided an accurate verbal and written report of the incident

post-incident debrief and evaluation

followed the prompts of a Automated External Defibrillator (AED)

followed single rescue procedure, including the demonstration of a rotation of operators with minimal interruptions to compressions

responded to at least three simulated first aid scenarios contextualised to the candidate’s workplace/community setting, including:

demonstrated safe manual handling techniques

conducted a visual and verbal secondary survey assessment of the casualty

assessed vital signs (respirations, pulse and temperature)

applied first aid procedures for the following:

allergic reaction

anaphylaxis

bleeding control

choking and airway obstruction

conducted a basic triage for multiple casualty incident

envenomation (using pressure immobilisation)

fractures, sprains and strains (using arm slings, roller bandages or other appropriate immobilisation principles)

head, neck and spinal injuries (using immobilisation principles)

respiratory distress – including asthma

seizures – including epilepsy

shock

located and interpreted workplace policies and procedures

Course Prerequisites

There are no prerequisites for this HLTAID014 Provide advanced first aid course. Students must be at least 14 years of age at the time of attendance.

Important note: In order to issue an accredited certificate, CPR must be performed on the floor with no exemptions.

Clothing: We suggest that you wear comfortable casual clothing, as the practical nature of the demonstrations and practice may possibly require bending, kneeling and lying on the floor. Pants and flat shoes are recommended

Course Format

The face to face training is available in either a 1-day or 2-day format and covers both theory and practical aspects of the HLTAID014 Provide advanced first aid course. 

There is a short multiple-choice quiz at the end of the training, covering the practical theory of the Provide Advanced First Aid information learnt that day.  Students will also be assessed on practical skills as a requirement to pass the course. Once completed, all students will receive a First Aid manual and first aid training pack

On successful completion of the course participants will be issued with a Statement of Attainment for the nationally accredited course – HLTAID014 Provide advanced first aid certificate.

Certificates are emailed following each course.

The HLTAID014 Provide advanced first aid certificate is valid for three (3) years from the completion date. The Code of Practice and Australian Resuscitation Council recommends that cardiopulmonary resuscitation skills are refreshed annually.

Once enrolled, Provide First Aid Gold Coast will email students a HLTAID014 course booking confirmation with venue details, maps, course requirements and terms of enrolment.
