Provide advanced resuscitation 

Healthcorp’s HLTAID015 Provide advanced resuscitation course provides the skills and knowledge required to use specialised equipment in the provision of resuscitation in line with the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) guidelines. The course applies to workers who may be required to use specialised equipment to provide resuscitation in a range of complex situations, include community and workplace settings.

The HLTAID015 Provide advanced resuscitation and oxygen therapy course provides students, who may be required to, use specialised equipment to provide resuscitation in a range of complex emergency situations. The course enables students to obtain advanced skills in automated external defibrillation, mechanical resuscitation and oxygen delivery and understand the fundamental principles that can be applied to save and preserve life in accordance with the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) Guidelines. The comprehensive course training comprises of CPR pre-course learning and practical training plus face-to-face training.

The candidate must show evidence of the ability to complete tasks outlined in elements and performance criteria of this unit, manage tasks and manage contingencies in the context of the job role. The demonstrated evidence is performed in line within state/territory regulations, first aid codes of practice, Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) guidelines and workplace procedures

Learning Objectives

Followed DRSABCD in line with ARC guidelines, including:

performed at least 2 minutes of uninterrupted single rescuer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) (5 cycles of both compressions and ventilations) on an adult resuscitation manikin placed on the floor

performed at least 2 minutes of uninterrupted single rescuer CPR (5 cycles both compressions and ventilations) on an infant resuscitation manikin placed on a firm surface

performed at least 2 minutes of bag-valve-mask ventilation and at least 2 minutes of compression on an adult resuscitation manikin placed on the floor

responded appropriately in the event of regurgitation or vomiting

managed the unconscious breathing casualty

followed the prompts of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)

administered oxygen to an unconscious/conscious casualty, including:

selected and prepared correct oxygen equipment

administered oxygen safely at correct flow rate

monitored and coordinated maintenance of resuscitation equipment

dismantling

storage

disposal

cleaning and decontamination

checking and diagnosis of faults

located and interpreted workplace policies and procedures

followed single rescue procedure, including the demonstration of a rotation of operators with minimal interruptions to compressions

conducted a visual and verbal secondary survey assessment of the casualty

assessed vital signs (respirations, pulse and temperature)

responded to at least three simulated first aid scenarios contextualised to the candidate’s workplace/community setting, including:

demonstrated safe manual handling techniques

clearing the airway using a suction device

post-incident debrief and evaluation

provided an accurate verbal and written report of the incident

selected and inserted an oropharyngeal airway adjunct

Course Prerequisites

Students must be at least 14 years of age at the time of attendance.

Important note:  From 1 July 2021 this course has a pre-requisite of HLTAID011 Provide first aid. This means that before you can attend this course you must attend and complete a Provide first aid HLTAID011 course. (HLTAID003 is not accepted). This is due to a national training package update. If you have already completed Provide first aid HLTAID011 you will need to supply your certificate to us as soon as possible. If you have not completed this prerequisite course you will need to book and attend a course prior to completing  Provide advanced resuscitation and Oxygen Therapy HLTAID015. 

Course Format

The face to face training is 6 hours and covers both theory and practical aspects of the Provide advanced resuscitation course.

There is a short multiple-choice quiz at the end of the training covering the course theory learnt that day. Students will also be assessed on practical skills as a requirement to pass the course. Once completed, all students will receive an Advanced resuscitation manual and pocket mask.

On successful completion of the course participants will be issued with a Statement of Attainment for the nationally accredited course – HLTAID015 Provide advanced resuscitation certificate

Certificates are emailed following each course.

The HLTAID015 Provide advanced resuscitation certificate is valid for 12 months from the completion date.

Once enrolled, Provide First Aid Gold Coast will email students a HLTAID015 course booking confirmation with venue details, maps, course requirements and terms of enrolment.
